Dunta Robinson is a 10 year, former player of the National Football League. Robinson was a premiere cornerback in the NFL for six years with the Houston Texans, three years with the Atlanta Falcons, and one year with the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2007, following what could have been a career-ending injury, Robinson began thinking about life after football. It was at this moment that he realized his desire to nurture other talents and began his pursuit of a second major dream.
At the beginning of his football career, Robinson’s philanthropic efforts focused on a traveling youth football team in his hometown Athens, Georgia. The program prioritized academic success and emphasized the importance of travel. During Robinson’s later years in the NFL, he took advantage of the academic opportunities offered through the off-season. He completed The Wharton School of Business Bootcamp (2013), Sports Journalism and Communication Bootcamp (2014), Notre Dame Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program (2014), and a Consumer Product Program (2014). A year after Robinson retired from the NFL, he went back to the University of South Carolina to obtain his undergraduate degree. Between the business programs, personal business ventures, and acquiring his degree, Robinson’s philanthropic vision began to manifest.
Robinson strongly believes that the earlier one is exposed to an idea, the more it will become a part of them. This is why The Dunta Robinson Foundation launched Take the Lead in 2017, an entrepreneurship program catered to underserved youth. The program shows youth how to take a business idea and bring it to life, while simultaneously preparing them for the competitive world we live in. Too often, academic programs are extremely one-dimensional, offering generic outlets and career options for the next generation. Robinson hopes that as an athlete turned entrepreneur, his story will inspire youth to think outside the box and add branches to their dreams.
